Can STT be included while computing capital gains?

Modified on Sun, 13 Aug, 2023 at 2:44 PM

STT paid cannot be treated as an expenditure and it will not reduce your capital gains tax liability. STT paid during the purchase of securities is not included in the cost of acquisition. Similarly, STT paid when selling securities is not categorized as a transfer expense.

However, it can be claimed as a business expense by persons who trade in shares.
