Why cumulative interest in fixed income asset and div. reinvest. in MF are added to amount invested?

edited April 2013 in General
When you pass cumulative interest entry in fixed income assets the interest is added as investment. This is done based on how we maintain our accounts. This is also true in case of mutual funds with dividend re-investment. The reinvested dividend amount will show up as buy entry in summary screen. However, if you want to see the net amount invested as well as actual return on any asset including Deposits, PPF and mutual fund, check the 'Annualised Returns (XIRR)' report under Analytical category. You will see the net investment amount as amount invested. The cumulative interest is excluded from the invested amount, but it will be added in total gain.
